The House of Bumble's team -especially ERIC- can do no wrong. This location has been notorious for canceling on me and others and the last minute without offering other times.

Cancellations Should a cancellation or date change be necessary, we request a minimum of 24-hours notice. They are really accommodating and on time. I look at the cut, price, and friendliness for an overall rating.

Bumble and bumble

Should have read Citysearch First — OMG, When I read the reviews, after I had a disastrous haircut, I was not all that shocked to see that there were a few that I could have written myself! I was surprised by the arrogance and indifference to my wants, by William, my haircutter, who was more interested in telling me his credentials, than listening to my concerns. I had mentioned a particular hairstyle type that I wanted, and he couldn't have been less interested to find out what I meant. At one point during the haircut, I point blank asked him, in a very nice way , if there was some reason that he didn't want to cut my hair. He cut my hair with a razor, and just as the other comments say, I had only wanted some of the long layers trimmed, and the bottom had to be put into shape. He told me that when he finished, my hair would be grazing my shoulder, which it is not. I have a really good head of hair, only now as some of the other clients have said, I guess I will have to wait about 6 months for it to grow back. I will say, I complained at the front desk as I was paying. They were very nice, and even offered me a small discount. They said that if I was still unhappy within the next 2 weeks, that I could come in for another cut with another stylist. The salon is such an amazing space, that I wish I could return, but I NEVER WILL. Fabulous Cuts and Styles! One that will cut it the way you want it without you telling them. I cannot say this will be my last place to go because I do love trying new ones out there, what I can say is that I was pretty impressed by the haircut. I look at the cut, price, and friendliness for an overall rating. The location and decor is amazing. Totally satisfied and plan on recommending this place to my friends as well. If only I could remember the name of the person I saw that would be a great help. Either way, as I looked around I saw lots of people getting really fabulous haircuts. The next time I can afford this place I? I read the reviews and didn't believe them — I read a batch of bad reviews and figured it was the competition having fun. This place is living on its past reputation. The stylists are so busy fawning over each other than they entirely neglect the needs of the client. I tried the haircuts three times guess that makes me pretty foolish. Each was worse than the other - but weirdly, they all looked great for about three days. Then plop ; they fell like a bag of straw. Probably because the colorist there absolutely fried my once-gorgeous, shiny, thick hair. First she put in so many highlights that my hair was a shade of ash that made it look gray. All the processing with some awful products has left me with unrecognizable locks. My hair was always easy and beautiful - and Bumble and Bumble managed to take that away. I imagine I'll have to wait six months for it to grow back. Meantime, I'm off to another place to fix Bumble and Bumble's horror show. And yes, it did cost a fortune to have my hair ruined. Horrible — I went to Crystal yesterday and asked for scissor layers and some fringe around my face. I only wanted one to two inches taken off the length. My hair was about 12 inches past my shoulders when I went in, and 2 inches past my shoulders when I left. My thick hair has been reduced to a limp, frizzy mess. The left side is about an inch and a half longer then right... I spent 2 years growing out my hair, and now it looks like I'll either be getting a bob or spending another 2 years re-growing. All of the product made my hair look fine when I left, but after washing it myself it looks awful despite multiple attempts curling, straightening, air-drying with product... I could have done a better job with a pair of nail clippers. However, I've now had two bad haircuts from William. I don't know why I went back -- I guess I was hoping the first bad cut was a fluke. The first time he thinned it out way too much then styled it into a frizzy mop that my partner still laughs about. Six months later I asked him to suggest styles that would compliment the shape of my face and he refused while chastising me for not bringing a picture I did the first time, but I got a totally unrelated frizzy mop. Both times he seemed distracted and sour. Andrean: The Best Stylist in NYC — Everyone knows: you get what you pay for, so I am OK with the cost of Bumble cuts and here's why... After moving to NYC in 1997, I was referred by a friend to a stylist and salon which I continued to use for more than 7 years happily and loyally. A hair emergency arose big job interview four years ago and my go-to stylist was out of town. Recently, a victim of the sinking economy, I lost my job suddenly. The good news is that I managed to line up an interview almost immediately. But, I had a problem: my hair had grown a little too long and shaggy for an important job interview. That's right, Andrean to the rescue again. If I get the job, I know exactly who to thank. Simply put, she's the best. If you see her and disagree, let me know. BEST PLACE TO GET HAIRCUT — I usually have bad experiences with haircuts but i heard bumble and bumble was a good place to go. So i booked an appointment with Travis in the downtown salon. He did exactly what i wanted and didn't cut all my hair off like everyone does. They are really accommodating and on time. This location has been notorious for canceling on me and others and the last minute without offering other times. Maybe they don't care about or need their customers. Also, I don't care too much about being coddled when getting my hair done, but here you just feel rushed through everything. I guess if you're desperate, they won't screw up your hair, but there are other places to go. I guess it was one of those things where if everyone else is I should too. I should have known better. My hair is awful. The color is drab and lacks any shine and my cut was generic. The stylists are so focused on themselves that they dont pay attention to you. Not to mention I felt like a product on a conveyor belt waiting to be stamped and shipped. They had 4 different people working on me. After I saw my own hair I truly wanted to cry. I looked around and noticed the less then mediocre hair styles on other people being serviced and thought we are all a bunch of suckers. I will never step foot in that place again. I hope this helps in your decision. Don't be fooled or pressured like I was. Thank god hair grows. UPTOWN BUTCHERED MULLET — STAY AWAY! I have never in my life been so disappointed by a haircut. I asked for simple long layers, and came out with a 2008 version of the Rachel. Since then, I have had to go to another salon to have my hair FIXED! My point: This is not only a style I didn't ask for, nor did I like, but it was just a poorly done cut, period. I was excited to go there, as I've heard so much about it, and have never cried so much over something so superficial. ALSO, Just read ones below this, and I left the UPTOWN location with long hair BUTCHERED by a razor into a MULLET. Is that all they know how to do? I had an appointment for full highlights for which I had to leave work 2 hours early to commute there. When I arrived, she proceeded to tell me that she didn't have enough time for me even though I had booked the correct appointment. When I returned for my appointment which was rescheduled for the next day I had been switched to 3 different colorists at that time , I ended up with a hair color that is absolutely nothing like what I asked for. Aura completely ignored the photo I brought in. And to make it worse, when I asked Aura the colorist to fix it a little because it wasn't what I expected or asked for, she gave me nothing but attitude. When they were rinsing my hair, I could even hear them talking about me and how I was one of those customers that is impossible to please. I'm not impossible to please---but don't give me dark brown hair when I ask for golden highlights! Best color of my life! My natural color is a dark blonde and i wanted bright hilites but not chunky. Victoria 'painted' me and by watching her, i thought the outcome wouldn't be what i wanted... She is the top colorist and expensive but SO worth it. I just went back in for a 2nd time to see Victoria to get my roots done and could not be happier! Although, I did miss her assistant Matt.... Dante gets it done! But Dante took great care in giving me the best cut for my head of hair and really made it feel healthy and great, using minimal product. This new spot is gorgeous, too. Wonderful views while I was getting my cut. I have long hair and have been their client for 3 years. Mai does color and TOM does my hair cut. I think MAI was born to be a colorist and Tom was born to be hair stylist. They are the best of the best!! The cafe has decent coffee and tea. When I left the salon, it looked okay. It wasn't until the next day, that I had washed it and fixed it myself that it ended up being horrendous. I read a review named MULLET and I have to agree with everything. I do have to wear my hair in bobby pins and in a ponytail, but it is still a disaster. I went to LISA and she asked me exactly what I wanted and what my morning routine was. Needless to say, I got something of the complete opposite. The other salon that I went to told me that the person that cut my hair was an idiot and she cut in a way that normal people would not be able to style their hair. I will never go back. My hair WAS COMPLETELY BUTCHERED WITH A RAZOR. Best Haircut I have ever had — I just got back from my first cut and color at Bumble and Bumble Uptown and I couldn't be happier. Jodie did my color... I was disheartened because of the review I read about Stevie. I have long thick VERY curly hair that I always straighten and I think it is safe to say that this is the best haircut I have ever had. She did exactly what I had asked her to... My hair is still long, thick, and the layers are perfect and blended. I can't wait to go back again they will trim your bangs for free! Jodie was fabulous too. Awful Experience — Girls with long, beautiful hair beware. I just went to the uptown location to get a haircut yesterday. They used a razor and gave me this short, choppy, UGLY haircut after showing my hairdresser a picture of Eva Longoria with a long layered look! My hairdresser clearly didnt listen to a word I said. It was the worst hair experience ever!!! Fantastic Haircut By Nico — I've been searching for not just a good but a fantastic hairdresser for the last year and Nico is the one!! He took the time to listen to the kind of style I wanted to project through my haircut and delivered that style perfectly. He fixed my previously butchered bangs and showed me not only where I need to grow them out but also a few ways to wear them to keep them fashionably off my face. All of my friends have complimented my newly gorgeous hair. If you want a perfect haircut go to Nico!!! From the moment I walked in, everyone was super friendly. It's a great atmosphere and has a cool vibe. There is a small cafe where you can wait, although the wait was less than a minute. The hair washers were very friendly and talkative - mine even gave me a mini shoulder massage! My stylist, Roberto, was terrific. I showed him a picture of what I wanted, and he cut and styled my hair to reflect the image in the picture, but tailored it to my particular face shape. My hair looks amazing. Roberto was great and very friendly - the other stylists seemed very nice as well. Everyone, employees and customers appeared very happy. KAT MADE ME LOOK BEAUTIFUL — KAT GAVE ME EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED.. IT'S BEEN 4 WEEKS AND IT STILL LOOKS GREAT.. I ALSO HAVE A LOT OF HAIR.... WHEN I MET HER FOR MY CONSULTATION, I TOLD HER WHAT I WANTED AND SHE LISTENED TO ME.. SHE TOLD ME I WAS GOING TO FEEL BEAUTIFUL AFTER SHE WAS DONE... I WAS SO HAPPY WITH MY HAIR.. THE CUT WAS ONLY 105.. IT WAS VERY WORTH IT FOR ME. IT DOESNT TAKE ME 10 YEARS TO DO MY HAIR ANYMORE.. IT WAS GREAT AND I WAS IN AND OUT. ENOUGH TIME TO GO BACK TO WORK,.. SHE ALSO TOLD ME THAT IF I WAS A LOYAL CLIENT TO HER, SHE WOULD HOOK ME UP WITH A BLOWDRY WHENEVER I HAD A BIG EVENT FOR FREE.. I DONT HAVE MUCH TIME IN MY HANDS BECAUSE I TRAVEL A LOT, SO SHE ALSO TOLD ME SHE WOULD SQUEEZE ME IN WHENEVER I WANTED.. AND SHE WAS SO GORGEOUS AND EASY TO TALK TO... I DIDNT FEEL INTIMIDATED BY HER AT ALL.. SHE'S THE GIRL THAT WILL MAKE YOU LOOK AND FEEL LIKE A CELEBRITY WHEN YOUR THERE AND WHEN YOU LEAVE.. SHE GETS 10 STARS FROM ME NOT 5.. THEY HAVE GREAT FOOD AND EASY FOR YOU WHEN YOUR ON YOUR LUNCH BREAK. YOU CAN HAVE LUNCH AND GET YOUR HAIR DONE.. Beware if you like your hair — INCOMPETENCE WITH AN ATTITUDE - AURA incompetent colorist with an attitude RUINED my hair. I finally changed salons when I was told that my hair was FRIED and needed to be CUT OFF. This salon uses low grade color products. And I paid hundreds to have my hair catastrophically DESTROYED. I had been going to this salon for a few months and I kept hoping that it would improve. Appointments made weeks in advance were cancelled hours before my appointment 4 times. Attitude is endless at this OVERRATED CHOP SHOP. Save your money and go to another salon. I only wish that I had read the salon reviews before making the mistake of patronizing this so-called salon. And stay away from Aura. Great cut in the Meatpacking district — I went to Fiona also known as MIchelle -- on a recommendation. I couldn't have gotten a better cut. The place is expensive, no doubt, but I did feel like it was worth it. Great atmosphere and a great cut. I don't know about anyone else there but I would recommend her for a cut. The color is another thing. The first colorist was a bit snotty and made me feel like I was using wrong products. So I switched and the last 2 times I had bright orange highlights in my roots! First time it was corrected which cost me another hour and the second time I let it go. I am pretty busy and sitting there for 3 hours plus is just not in my schedule. I used only their own products and am not sure what goes wrong there but I won't be back which is pretty sad since I really liked Dante. I think the prices are fair and in line with other salons. They even include a glossing finish in the highlight process which can cost a bundle added on in other salons. Best free haircut anywhere, better than paying! You are required to come by on Monday nights for a screening for them to assess your hairtype. After that, you're free to book your haircut whenever. The space is beautiful, super clean, and it's located in the trendy Meatpacking District. All the stylists are already trained professionals and have at least 2 years of hair experience, they're just learning the Bumble technique. The haircut is closely supervised by the teacher and it comes out beautiful, always. The best part is that they cut the hair TAILORED to your face and styling needs. So while the classes are all doing one style, it's not a one size fits all cut, but cut just for you. You can rebook your haircut as often as you like! Teh classes are large and there are at least 10 other girls there, so you don't feel self conscious about being a hair model, as each instructor gets their own model. Perhaps the only cons are that you should allot 2-3 hours for the haircut, since they are very thorough in the instruction and you have to settle for appointments weeks in advance. If you sign up for the styling sessions, you get free products and points towards free products and gifts like Itunes giftcards. Tipping is not allowed. This is perfect for students! The creme de la creme — I wouldn't cut my hair anywhere else in NYC. The House of Bumble's team -especially ERIC- can do no wrong. With clear vision and an edgy persona built into every worker, I never leave disappointed. As a guy, it's impossible to get a different haircut from the norm. Yet under ERIC and the Bumble and Bumble team I have the haircut I've always dreamed about. And the best part? Since the cut is so well done, it grows out really nice and I can wear my hair longer! I rarely go back for months because the haircut only gets better with time. Worth the Price — I have very thick hair that can be tough to style. It's long and layered, but I have had a number of stylists chop into it, bc it can be a little overwhelming. I love the BB products, so I decided to try the salon. I was terrified of the idea of someone using a razor, but with a few strokes and me gripping the chair, white-knuckled -- my hair was slimmed down to a manageable to style kept all of the length too. Also, I hate to be a slave to blow-drying and I told my stylist this... I never had a stylist give me three or four options when styling my hair. Totally friendly staff for such a swanky salon. All I can say is WOW! She was really easy going and took the time to listen to what I wanted. I was hesitant about the razor being used on my hair, but she explained exactly how and why she would use it, and she did exactly what she told me she would do. I went to the uptown salon which is definitely a little hectic and noisy, but my cut is growing out beautifully and I've gotten a ton of complements, so overall it was a great experience! Only place I go — I have used a number of stylists there and have been very pleased with everyone. They are not as rude and inconsiderate as others have made them out to be. They will give a little attitude but as long as you are stern and tell them what you want you will be fine. Nor have I ever felt the need to splurge on all of the products that they insist I use. I love their especially the surf spray and hair powder. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! I found that my local Super Cuts gives me a better cut than Bumble and Bumble. Worst Color I ever got — Ok so I go to Bumble and Bumble thiking i'll get the color I want, turns out these people dont even know what they are doing, they seemed as if they were to good for me? Sarah at the Downtown location...... I usually go get the razor bob and they do a great job. It's always been a great experience, and then they send emails on how to style my hairstyle and give me free product as well! You should try it! I went there the first time I decided to get a drastic style makeover, afraid of what the end result was. SInce my first haircut a year ago, this is the only place I trust. I've 4 haircuts since then and have loved each one. Awful for a High-End Salon — This salon is not worth your time or money. If you want a good cut, go to Frederick Fekkai. The girls are flaky, inconsiderate, and self-absorbed. I think they spend more time choosing their outfits in the morning than they do learning how to cut hair. DO NOT GO TO KORINNA. My hair looked EXACTLY the same as when I came in. At least she didn't screw it up, but I left with split ends. When I pointed them out to her, she gave me the dumb airhead look and snipped a few pieces and was like ta da! But once again, it looked exactly the same. Honestly, after reading other reviews, I must say I agree. I wish I would have read them before I went. A scene at a salon DOES NOT mean good cuts. Repeat: DO NOT GO TO KORINNA. If you do go, try someone else. She is extremely rude and inconsiderate, as well as untalented. The stylist butchered my hair! In another six weeks my hair will be passable in some kind of style, MAYBE. The bottom line is if you want a hairstyle that REQUIRES SKILL like a graduated bob --go and get the free haircut while the stylist is being WATCHED... Read the reviews here... Best haircut I've ever had but for the price, it better have been! Not only did it look great the day of, but it just got better over the next 2 weeks. I brought in pictures... My blowouts since then have been flawless. I wish their prices were a tad lower, but with such great results, I can't complain too loudly. Razor-sharp cuts, trend-setting color and a beautiful clientele. Luckily, mere mortals still score plenty of attention. Everything at Bumble has a bit of an edge--from creative color schemes and rocker cuts to glistening blow-outs and ahead-of-the-curve make-up. The salon pioneered shearing hair edges with razors to create sharp, sexy movement, and some of the city's best colorists can tinge your mane from subtle to shocking with an eye to fashion's next trends. Bumble and Bumble is for a haircut not a trim — I have been going to this salon for a year and i have never had a complaint. I am not a girly girly, i am not rich, i am just an everyday girl that loves a good haircut. It's expensive but it's worth it. The location and salon itself was a little daunting to me but as soon as you walk in you are made to feel welcome by the floor manager that takes your name and notifies your stylist that you are there. The hairstylist assistant gets you when your stylists is ready and walks you down to the smock room and then to your stylist to get a consultation. The FIRST time i went there the stylist washed and dried my hair just to get a feel for what she was working with, WHO DOES THAT? I got a great haircut, a great view and excellent customer service. My hairstylist even recognized me as soon as I came in again, 3 months later and worked with me on cutting my hair so the style would last longer I have very short hair. I know when i go there i will get a cutting edge, on time, precise haircut which is what these people specialize in. Go to any old hairdresser and get a trim, don't come to a salon that is a school that teaches innovative hair cutting techniques. I highly recommend Stephanie Braun, she is a sweet down to earth stylist that can give you a trim if you want to play it safe or a haircut. I love how Bumble and Bumble is high on swank, respect and fun for all of their clients whether you come in overalls or Chanel. Sets the Standard for Hip Cuts, but You Can Find it Cheaper! They gave me a cut that had plenty of attitude, but also a good structure, so that it grew out nicely, and didn't need constant upkeep. The beautiful space, complimentary tea or coffee, and great shampoos make your experience relaxing and luxurious. However, over the years I feel that Bumble has toned down it's once edgy style - perhaps because more conservative clients now go there, and get freaked if the stylist starts whisking away with the razor blade. So, I left Bumble and started going to a little Japanese place where they're not afraid to give me a more unique cut, and at half the price! Kiwa Salon on 27th for those who want to know! I am afraid to leave the house and probalby haven't cried this hard since I broke up with my last looser boyfriend. THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THE SHROOM DOWN IS TO USE AT LEAST 10 DIFFERENT BOBBY PINS IN DIFFERENT SPOTS ON THE SIDES!!! I work in the fricking beauty industry for crying out loud. I wouldn't go back there. There are plenty of other places you could waste that much money for a modest trim. I've seen Coby and Tom for cuts, and Victoria for color. Each time I left extremely satisfied with their services. Also, check out their great product line- I don't know where I'd be without their grooming creme... If you have a choice, go for the current cut, which means you can get any style you want. The cutting ended up being done by the student under very close supervision , and 2 Bb stylists. It was all done using a razor - no scissors - and I seriously felt like a rockstar when I walked out. They suggested but in no way pushed some products that they used in my hair. I also do not like how, in a normal salon setting, you have a specific stylist always and they would be fatally insulted if you went to anyone else, I think that is stupid, and that obviously is not an issue here. These model haircuts are better than ANYTHING you'd pay for in a salon, since the point of the whole exercise is to be absolutely perfect, and tailored specifically to your head of hair. I will DEFINITELY be going back again and again for my free cuts as long as the model project is going on! Oh, and you don't tip!
